Publish your Article

The Gufo is an open-access platform where researchers can do two things: publish a new article through our editorial and peer-review process, or share an article they have already published elsewhere so it reaches a wider audience. Shared articles must be open-access publications under a Creative Commons licence. Everything on The Gufo is free to read.

A published article is submitted to The Gufo as new work, goes through editorial screening and peer review, and is issued a DOI by The Gufo. A shared article was originally published somewhere else; we host or link to it with full attribution so readers can find it here. Shared articles keep their original DOI and license. Each card shows which type it is.

Reading is always free. Sharing an already-published article is free. Publishing a new article carries a one-time fee based on the submitting organization: $1,750 for businesses, $1,500 for research organizations, $950 for universities and colleges, $950 for non-profit research organizations and $950 for independent researchers. Every new submission goes through editorial screening, peer review and plagiarism screening. Our editorial team checks scope and completeness first; the manuscript is then screened and sent to experts in the relevant field. The Gufo may use similarity-detection tools as part of the editorial process. Authors are notified at each stage and can track the status of their manuscript from their profile. Editorial decisions are final, subject to our appeals procedure.

Authors keep the copyright to their work. Articles published with The Gufo are released under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 license (CC BY-NC 4.0): anyone may read, share and adapt the work for non-commercial purposes as long as the authors are credited. Shared articles remain under the license of their original publisher.

Yes. Every article published with The Gufo receives a Digital Object Identifier, which makes it permanently citable. Shared articles keep the DOI assigned by their original publisher.

Yes, if it was published under a Creative Commons licence (CC BY, CC BY-SA, CC BY-ND, CC BY-NC, CC BY-NC-SA, CC BY-NC-ND or CC0) — the licence itself lets anyone share the work. We show the publisher’s PDF unchanged and in full, free to read and download, with no advertising and no paywall on the page. When you give its DOI we fill in the details from Crossref; an article already in the library cannot be shared twice. If a publisher or co-author objects, we remove the item promptly.

Our editors also select notable open-access research from other journals and add it to the library so readers can discover it in one place. We only include work whose Creative Commons license permits it, and every curated item shows its original authors, source journal, license and a link to the original. Authors and publishers can ask us to remove an item at any time; we act within 48 hours.

A new article is entered in the submission form — abstract, body, references and declarations — and The Gufo generates its PDF when it is accepted; datasets, figures and appendices can be attached as supplementary files. A shared article is uploaded as the original publisher’s PDF. The maximum file size is 25 MB. If a file is larger, contact us and we will help.

Your publication fee is refunded in full if your submission is declined during our initial screening, or if you withdraw it before an editor has been assigned. Once an editor has been assigned, editorial work has begun and the fee is no longer refundable, regardless of the final decision. If we have not assigned an editor within 30 days of payment, we refund the fee automatically. Fees charged in error, duplicated payments, and confirmed fraudulent charges are refunded in full when reported within 48 hours. Refunds are issued to the original payment method. Yes. The Gufo hosts its own journals, each with a defined scope and an editorial board.

Every article links to its authors’ profiles, which list their affiliation, other publications and, where they have chosen to share it, contact details and academic identifiers such as ORCID.

We welcome experienced researchers as editors and reviewers. Fill in the application on the Join Our Editorial Team page; the editorial office reviews applications and replies by email.
